Tenby Boxing Day Swim

The annual Tenby Boxing day swim sported another fantastic day for swimmers and spectators alike!

The weather was dry but a little chilly! The tide nestled just on the far side of Goscar Rock, so the waiting swimmers did not have too far to go to take the plunge!

The Brave swimmers congregated on the beach around the blazing bonfire for a pre-swim warm up and watched the excitement of the raft race. Many of the swimmers were turned out in some spectacular fancy dress costumes, Elvis, Little Britain, Monks and there was even a dog in a Santa outfit!

At 11.30am the starter gun was fired and 600 swimmers charged into the water, many of whom braved the cold in order to raise money for charity and the rest were there full of festive spirit and just having fun.

The plunge was watched by thousands of spectators who soaked up the excitement and electric atmosphere of the occasion from the beach and at vantage points all along the North beach.

After their " icy dip" the swimmers were greeted with a free dry T-shirt from sponsors Coastal Cottages of Pembrokeshire and were then awarded their commemorative medals (for sheer bravery, I would think!), then warmed themselves by the still blazing bonfire.

I'm sure everyone there would agree it was a fantastic experience, great Christmas fun and all for a good cause raising money for charities including the Tsunami Support Charity START, the Wales Air Ambulance, the Jubilee Sailing Trust, Portfield School and Tenby Playgroup.

To the brave and fun-loving swimmers we offer our Congratulations and Thanks for your efforts and all that's left to say is.......SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!
